In the American Mind

there is always
the universal
to be said about the homeland

america-
never ending trees
forests
a majesty
worthy of worship
grasses of green
hording the plain

the law is supreme
justice and ignorance for all
our books
teachers for all times
revealing truths
that were hidden from our revelations
diseases
loss
the pursuit of unhappiness
is finally complete
an obscene hunger for what's real
no more gossip lies

suburban homes
smug in their conformity
materialism dominates
us
the willing servant
a god unto itself
served by the lower power
money is the end means
of too many common agendas
politics,
scandals waiting for birth
the old try to instruct the young
to follow the same old path
they have forgotten what it meant
to be free

sitcom conspiracies
rob the media instead
you must always follow the genius
they are always mad
but they turn out classics
vital to civilization
apocalyptic fires
burn down the inspiration
of our wilderness solitude
all
down played by the day shift
paid vacations,
mortgages,
bills,
and eventually
the grave
more must be attained
advancements
old monuments must fall
crumble like sand
to new ideas and
attainment

the people and their faith
move slowly
day-to-day
the whole unbearable inhumanity
brilliant instruction
the slovenly regress
argue the ever present curse
let your words,
deeds,
mind,
shake like an earthquake!
gain something
from the pain
the pen
in the end it's a dynasty
a tale
told throughout time
oral tradition
old and proud
beside an ancient fire
an offering
a prayer
hope

cement, tar, electricity
rules the domain
nature dies for progress
let us heal
instead of destroy.
